Staycation review: RWS Genting Hotel Jurong

I received a promotional email from RWS a couple months back to stay at their latest investment - Genting Hotel Jurong. The promotion was fab!!! Approximately SGD 150 for a night in "Superior Room" + breakfast buffet for two, and two tickets to S.E.A. Aquarium!

I tried searching for this promotion on the RWS website, unfortunately my search was to of no avail. Thus I concluded that the promotion was exclusive to their email listees (oopsie!)

I forwarded the email to H and threatened got him to help make the reservation immediately as he had easier access to a computer.

So a month after the grand opening of the hotel, we headed down to check it out for ourselves!!!

Reception area

Upon our arrival at the hotel, we were swiftly ushered to one of the many reception counters available. The waiting time was... less than a minute? Thumbs up to their efficiency level!

As we were checking in, our receptionist informed us that due to the full occupancy of all "Superior Rooms", we would be upgraded to "Deluxe Room"(!!!) for our stay and we would be having a King-size bed. The sight of a goofy wide grin spreading across H's face upon hearing the delightful "U" word - PRICELESS.

Tadah!!! Presenting to you, the "Deluxe Room"

I know, not very fantastic right? LOL

H and I walked in, and we had a "banana in pyjamas" moment.

H: Er.....
Me: Room very small right?
H: Ya.
Me: Deluxe room so small liao, I wonder how our previous Superior room would be like.
H: Haha.. Ya lor. But bo bian, Singapore not enough land.
Me: Yeah. At least we got King size bed... Siam!!! I want to jump on the bed!!! Wheeeeeee! *jumps onto the bed*
H: Oi! Haven't take photo of the room!!!!

Too late! Fluffeh pillowssssss!!

All food and drinks within the room are complimentary!

There was also a can of 100-plus and a packet of Yeo's Bandung in the chiller. Both drinks were on-the-house!

Small sanitation room but adequately sufficient to fulfil your toileting + hygiene needs

Happy selfie!

RWS charm bracelet courtesy of the hotel, thank you!

My favourite charms are the cat and the RWS gold ingot!

A triple-fold sofa bed that can be unfolded to become a sofa bed for one pax!

Brightly lit + colourful carpeted corridors

Heads-up on something about this hotel: It is filled with "ah tiongs" (aka PRCs).

We couldn't figure out the reason behind the influx of PRCs. Maybe because the hotel is part of RWS franchise and thus supposedly considered "atas", but the cost per room here is a smaller fraction as compared to those in Sentosa.

Sky lounge

The Sky Lounge is located on the top most floor of the building, and is a space that is used mostly for events. It constitutes an indoor air-conditioned area and an outside area (as seen in the photo).

Festive cafe

This is where we had our breakfast buffet in the morning, which had a fairly decent variety of food available. The only thing that is lacking from the breakfast buffet is an egg station :( I love my morning egg omelettes!

Plain congee with some condiments

Asian breakfast

Pastries, cakes and bread are also available. H said that the crossiant was pretty good!

"Convenience" vending machines

Selling light snacks and hydrating beverages... to socks, underwear, toothbrushes and Durex feather-lite condoms (for those kinky nights minus the unplanned pregnancy)!

Small bar on the first floor

By "small", I actually mean puny.

There was a bartender there at night but no drinking guests were present. I guess it was because the lobby lights (which were white lights and fully on) made the place looked so family-friendly and uninviting to drinkers.

The only guests who would pop by are probably fathers who are too pissed off with his rowdy kids and naggy wife, and is in a desperate need for some cave time with a cup of terrible Tiger beer.

If he isn't desperate or have absolute bad taste, he would definitely not have gone for a Tiger.

Computers for the business people who are in need of Internet access.
Unfortunately the Internet access isn't FOC. Whoops!

Ratings: 3.5/5

My two cents:
A family-oriented, budget hotel for the lower middle-class.

Pros to this hotel is its accessibility as the nearest MRT station (Jurong East) is 12-15 minutes walk away, and it is situated around various shopping centres.

The nearest shopping mall from the hotel would be JCube which is about 5-minutes walk away, and the next nearest would be JEM which requires 10 minutes of walking. Jurong Regional Library is right smack opposite of the hotel, and there is a bus stop right outside of the hotel (not sure what bus services are available though).

Do note that despite there being a cafe on the ground floor, there is no (food) room service available at this hotel. And also no bathrobes and bedroom slippers provided too — that's why I say budget!!

There is an electronic safety box within the room, and the usual toilet amenities (such as toothbrush, soap, shower cap and etc) are all available for your usage at no extra charges.

Free shuttle bus rides to and fro Sentosa are available for their hotel guests, so going to USS, Adventure Cove or S.E.A. Aquarium is not a problem at all!
